The stunning natural beauty of Victoria's Alpine High Country is on display every day of the eyar when you visit Falls Creek, Mt Beauty and the Kiewa Valley. The name 'Bogong' is an Aboriginal word loosely translated as "Big Fella" and 'Kiewa' is "sweet water", aptly describing Victoria's highest peak and one of Victoria's most pristine rivers.

Bogong Village

Established in 1940 an located between Mt Beauty and Falls Creek, Bogong Village is hidden in a peaceful valley surrounded by magnificent gardens. The village gardens are stunning in Spring and wonderfully shady in Summer. Located on the edge of Lake Guy, canoeing, fishing and swimming are favourite summer sports, along with bushwalking, tennis and horse riding. In winter, the village is popular with skiers.

Falls Creek

Falls Creek, originally known as "Horseshoe Creek" by the early cattlemen and re-named during a road survey for the State Electricity Commission in 1938, has grown from a humble SEC hut. The ski resort of Falls Creek was created largely by European workers on the Kiewa Hydro-electricity scheme, who quickly realised that the area was ideal for skiing. Falls Creek is a year-round destination, with downhill and cross country skiing in winter, and bushwalking, trail riding, fishing, cycling, windsurfing and boating in summer. Surrounded by awesome mountain scenery, some of Australia's most inspirational bike riding country can be discovered at Falls Creek. There is a host of accommodation with excellent restaurants and cafes to get your taste buds tingling. Mt Beauty

An aptly named town, Mt Beauty sits at the base of Victoria's highest mountain, Mt Bogong (1987m). This beautiful little town was planned and created by the State Electricity Commission in the late 1940s, and was originally home to the thousands of workers who built the Kiewa Hydro-electricity Scheme. Mt Beauty is today the focal point for a variety of adventure activities, including cycling, 4WD, bushwalking and gliding, as well as swimming, boating and fishing in streams and lakes. Mt Beauty is the home of mountain biking in Victoria. As regular hosts of downhill and cross-country races, there are literally hundreds of trails to explore. An Alpine Discovery Centre has recently been opened, with visitor information facilities and extensive interpretive displays of the history and geography of this area. Tawonga and Tawonga South

These peaceful rural communities in the upper reaches of the Kiewa Valley are famous for Kiewa River trout fishing, beautiful countryside, views of Mt Bogong and great camping facilities. The Kiewa Valley wine industry is also rapidly developing, with five cellar doors offering excellent wine and food tastings and sales. If you need a little exercise after a day of indulgence, you’ll find plenty of cycling tracks and trails suitable for all ages and stages.
